Drug Court/Center Peer Recovery Specialist
On Our Own, Charlottesville – Charlottesville, VA

This position requires 20 hrs drug court support and 20 hrs center peer support.

MAJOR DUTIES for Drug Court Peer Support:

· Provides support services to participants and alumni of Drug Court.
· Provides support and education to family members.
· Works collaboratively with case managers, treatment providers and other care providers in linking individuals directly to services and supports specified in the individual’s Drug Court case plan.
· Attends staffing meetings with the Drug Court team and judge. Provides relevant participant information to inform decisions of the Court.
· Maintains contact with representatives of the various programs involved with Drug Court.
· Arranges aftercare and follow up services for individuals leaving Drug Court.
· Provides transportation to and from residential programs, treatment, support groups, medical appointments and as directed by the Drug Court Coordinator.
· Maintains necessary casework records to document the provision of support services.
· Receives supervision in accordance with On Our Own policy or as necessary.
· Attends required meetings and trainings as assigned.
· Reads all agency communication
· Performs other duties as assigned in keeping with general description of this position.

MAJOR DUTIES for Center Peer Support:

· greet members and orient visitors to the Center and its programs;
· facilitate a safe environment at all times;
· effectively and positively handle situations which may arise at the Center;
· assist members with accessing community resources by providing information and referral and making telephone calls when necessary;
· reporting Center activities to the Executive Director in a timely manner (as soon as possible in cases of emergency);
· being available and providing supportive assistance to all members and acting as a positive role model in actions, attitude, and behavior;
· maintaining standards of acceptable behavior (i.e., do not borrow from or take advantage of members);
· attend staff meetings and other trainings;
· maintain Center routine;
· participate in other duties as may be requested by supervisor.


A high school diploma/G.E.D is preferred. Personal experience in recovery is required; 2 years of sobriety and graduation from Drug Court is preferred. Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist is required or required to be obtained within 1 year of employment and certification training will be provided. A valid Virginia driver’s license is required or required to be obtained within 3 months of employment.

In addition, the incumbent needs to possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of:Drug Court policies and procedures. Substance use disorders and recovery.

Skills in: Facilitating groups, engaging resistant or difficult clients, cultural competency, working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system and agencies providing criminal justice services. Word processing and computer operation.

Abilities to: establish rapport with individuals in Drug Court and their families; maintain effective working relationships; perform outreach and public education; accept and seek out supervision, and work effectively with all levels of On Our Own/Drug Court staff.
