Job Description/Essential Functions:
District 19 Community Services Board in Old Towne Petersburg, VA is offering a full time position for a highly motivated self-starter to become a full-time Peer Support Specialist for the Petersburg Clinic. The successful incumbent must have proven organizational, along with excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Requirements: (Experience, Essential Education, and Skills Needed):
Minimum required qualification for this position include: High School diploma or GED, lived experience as a consumer of mental health services, must have at least 12 consecutive months of sobriety or drug free (if substance abuse diagnosis exists); at least 12 consecutive months of success within personal recovery. Will be required to transport consumers and families.

Required to have No less than 500 paid and or volunteer hours within the preceding year providing recovery related activities to consumers with mental illness. Candidate must have proficient computer skills, experience in record keeping/report completion and proficient scheduling/time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications / Other Relevant Job Information:
Preference is given to those who have within the past three years completed a DBHDS recognized Peer Specialist curriculum/program, who have experience with SMI population, and experience in Electronic Health Records.

Will be required to work towards obtaining Peer Specialist certification if not already certified. This position works closely with other staff using a team approach.

This is a grade 202 salaried position. Minimum Salary: $26,500.00annually.

Starting salary for new employees will be based on the prospective employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities directly relating to the position’s duties. Current or most recent verified salary will also be taken into consideration prior to making an offer of employment. Starting salaries for new employees will not exceed the maximum for the grade and will be based on the availability of funding within the current budget and Human Resources Policies and Procedures.

Position above requires a Valid Driver’s License in state of residence with a point balance of -6 or higher, a pre-employment extensive background check and drug screening.
