The Peer Recovery Specialist is an integral part of the Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare team and will be responsible for providing peer support services to individuals with substance abuse and/or mental health disorders in various settings, to include hospitals, courts, jails , and the community. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in personal recovery skills in order to serve as a role model and support individuals during and after a crisis. The Peer Recovery Specialist will provide recovery education, foster self-advocacy, community integration, and conduct wellness oriented service planning. The Peer Recovery Specialist will provide education, support, and linkage services in order to promote recovery and minimize relapse. Services carried out by the Peer Recovery Specialist include pre and post-discharge outreach, monitoring, advocacy, daily living support, and other similar functions as assigned. Candidates with substance abuse experience preferred.
