The Mason and Partners – Empowered Communities (MAP-EC) operates as a multi-site, cross-sector model requiring coordinated leadership across clinical, community, and workforce systems to achieve population-level impact. MAP-EC is housed within the College of Public Health. It brings together clinical services, behavioral health support, community engagement, education, and workforce development to advance health equity and improve outcomes for historically underserved populations. MAP-EC operates through interconnected programs and partnerships that span mental health, substance use recovery, primary care, public health navigation, and social support services. Team members work collaboratively across pillars to deliver direct services, strengthen community systems, and support innovation in whole-person care.

     Primary Purpose of the Position
The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) provides independent, peer recovery services across community, clinical and justice settings while serving as a mentor for PRS interns and entry-level peer staff. Drawing on lived experience, the PRS engages individuals in community and correctional settings, builds trusting relationships, and supports connection to recovery, treatment, and social services.

This position supports assigned programs, service lines, and initiatives across MAP-EC through outreach, peer navigation, care coordination, and mentorship activities. The role is designed as an intermediate-level position within a broader peer workforce model, with opportunities for skill development and advancement over time.
