Supervisor: Certified Peer Recovery Coordinator

Job Summary:

· A Peer Recovery Specialist provides ongoing support and guidance to individuals recovering from mental health conditions and/or substance abuse disorders, utilizing their own lived experience to help others navigate the recovery process, access community resources, develop coping mechanisms, and achieve personal recovery goals, often by facilitating group sessions, providing individual counseling, and advocating for client’s needs within the treatment system.

Core Functions:

· Conduct one-on-one meetings with clients to assess their needs, develop personalized recovery plans, and provide ongoing support and encouragement throughout their MH and/or SA recovery journey.

· Provide information about mental health conditions, addiction, and recovery options to clients and their support systems.

· Respond to client crises by providing immediate support and connecting them to appropriate crisis services when necessary.

· Assist clients in accessing community resources like housing, employment services, medical care, and support groups based on their specific needs.

· Lead peer support groups where individuals can share experiences, learn coping skills, and build community with others in recovery.

· Advocate for clients’ rights and needs within the treatment system and community working to reduce stigma associated with mental illness and substance abuse.

· Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including therapists, case managers, and family members to coordinate client care and ensure a holistic approach to recovery.

· Continuously engage in personal reflection on their own recovery journey and participate in ongoing training to maintain competency and ethical practice.

Behaviors, Competencies & Skills:

· Lived experience with mental health and/or substance abuse recovery demonstrating a deep understanding of the recovery process.

· Completion of a recognized Peer Recovery Specialist Training Program and required certification

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and other professionals.

· Ability to build rapport with clients, listen actively, and provide empathetic support.

· Understanding and upholding professional boundaries with clients.

Other Skills & Competencies:

· Valid Driver’s License.

· Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.

· CPR/First Aid.

· Trained in Person-Centered Supports.

· Ability to pass background CPS check.
