PEER RECOVERY SPECIALIST INTERN

Position: Peer Recovery Specialist Intern
Hours: 10 hours per week- two 5 hour days per week
Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour
Duration: 50 weeks
Total Internship Hours: 500 hours
POSITION HIGHLIGHT
This 50-week paid internship is designed to provide 500 hours of peer recovery work experience—the experience requirement identified by the Virginia Certification Board (VCB) for the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential.
Working 10 hours per week for 50 weeks = 500 hours of paid peer recovery experience.
This provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who are pursuing their CPRS credential to gain the required experience while being paid and receiving professional support and supervision. The Virginia Certification Board currently requires 500 hours of paid or volunteer experience specific to peer recovery services for CPRS certification. (Virginia Certification Board)
CPRS APPLICATION & EXAM SUPPORT

Centers For Opportunity will:
Finance the CPRS application fee
Assist you with completing and submitting your CPRS application
Provide guidance and documentation of your qualifying peer recovery work experience
Provide support throughout the certification process
Assist you in preparing for the CPRS examination
POSITION SUMMARY
Centers For Opportunity is seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Recovery Specialist Intern to support individuals who are working toward recovery and greater stability. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in peer support, recovery services, community resources, and person-centered engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide peer support and encouragement to individuals with lived experience of mental health and/or substance use challenges.
Share appropriate personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and support wellness.
Assist participants in identifying personal goals and recovery resources.
Help connect individuals with community resources and supportive services.
Participate in recovery-oriented activities, groups, and center programming.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Document services and interactions as required.
Work collaboratively with staff and other Peer Recovery Specialists.
Participate in required training, supervision, and team meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Personal lived experience with recovery and a willingness to appropriately use that experience to support others.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Dependable, compassionate, and respectful approach to working with others.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Willingness to learn and participate in training.
Individuals who are not yet CPRS certified are encouraged to apply.
